Intended Runners For This Week 17/10/2012
lukeschembri , Wednesday 17 October 2012 - 11:57:43 //

A relatively quiet week this week at Clear Height after Squad’s success last week as he turned out again today and Litmus runs tomorrow.

Squad ran a blinder last Thursday at Kempton Park in the 32RedBingo.com Handicap over 2m under Neil Callan. He broke well from stall four and was soon dropped to the back of the field to take a nice position on the rail. The six year old son of Choisir travelled kindly for Callan throughout the race, whilst still maintaining his position at the rear. The pace was reasonably slow that day and Squad started to make ground 3f out but still had plenty of work to do when entering the straight. When the gaps came Callan manoeuvred the gelding to the outside of the field and the race was over in a matter of strides. Squad swooped down the outside to take the lead around one furlong out and stayed on nicely to score by a cosy two and a quarter lengths.

His run today at Lingfield in the Chartplan Handicap over the same trip as his win at Kempton was run at a similar pace, which again suited Squad. He had a 6lb rise in the weights for his saunter at Kempton last week and appeared to have a tougher task ahead of him. Neil Callan took the ride again and the partnership ran a very similar race. He was dropped out early and travelled smoothly once again. When asked to quicken coming around the home turn he obliged with considerable ease but was trapped wide and had to come around a wall of horses. The favourite of the race managed to get first run on Squad who pulled well clear from the rest of the field and his challenge was not facilitated when the favourite drifted right, taking Squad with him. He was probably slightly unlucky to finish a half length second, but again ran a great race.

Litmus runs tomorrow in the 32RedBingo.com Classified Stakes over 1m, Neil Callan takes the ride. This 3 year old filly by Latent Heat has only ran twice for new owner Mr T.G. Parker and we are still learning more about her with every run. She showed some promise on her first run for the stable at Lingfield on the all weather and followed up with a similar performance at Kempton over 6f. She appeared slightly outpaced on both of those occasions and we are hoping that the step up to one mile will be more suitable. She has a great draw in stall two and we are hoping that she can run a good race.
